Year: 2020
Client: Private family
Adams and Collingwood (A&C) have been architects for the Söderberg family for 20 years. Initially the work was on their their beautiful large detached house in Marryat Road, Wimbledon. This was followed by a pool and pool house in the garden of the same property. latterly the work has been in Stockholm, Sweden where the Children grew up. When the youngest daughter bought a small Edwardian period apartment in Skånegatan, Stockholm. A&C were consulted once again to help with space planning and detailing using distanced communication. The brief to transform this small rather dark flat in to a modern abode for a graphic designer and her partner.
It was immediately noticed that the flat had its living room on the north aspect and bedroom on the south aspect which seemed counter-intuitive. The hall and internal hall space took up most of the precious square footage of the flat. A new plan was hatched with an open plan kitchen and living space on the south aspect and a cosy double bedroom with the north facing window. The old hall space became the sitting area and a compact shower, washbasin, WC, and utility space in the old bathroom. The client project managed the alterations themselves and added their own impeccable Scandinavian taste to the finishing touches. The flat now has a carefully exposed brick wall in the sitting area, a renovated Baltic Pine floor throughout and a carefully detailed white kitchen. The solution turned the flat in what the client describes as “the home of our dreams” with loads of sunlight and daylight pouring through the flat and brightening up their lives.
