Project Description
Waterloo Gym
Location: Waterloo, London
Year: 2006
Client: Soho Gyms
Value: £0.7m
The final of our five projects for Soho Gyms in 2006, this gym occupies a dramatic space within a series of 19th century railways arches at Waterloo Station. We chose to make the most of the raw industrial texture of the brick vaults leaving them exposed and creating a gym that works with the space. In recent years the gym has become famous as the preferred training venue for BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing celebrity contestants.
we designed centrally placed showers enclosed by elegant glass cubes and capped by stretched membrane canopies; they contrast dramatically with the curving forms and raw industrial textures of the brick vaults.
