Adams+Collingwood have a vision to ‘up-cycles’ these houses for 21st century living and future adaptability: Our recently completed project in Balham showcases our ideas that add valuable additional living accommodation and helping to solve our current housing crisis whilst retaining and reviving a valued London housing typology.

London’s terraced houses are a valuable resource and treasured urban typology; the preservation of these streets and communities is paramount. Today’s problem is that these terraced houses are getting on for 150 years old and the fabric is falling down and not up to current construction standards.

Working within design parameters aimed at maintaining quality, living accommodation, the refurbishment on this property gained a 30% increased by simply adding a single storey, with roof terrace, and a full height extension to the back. Crucially the new terraced house is sustainable, surpassing modern building regulations for new build houses and exceeding comfort level expectations for Victorian terraced houses.
