Working sensitively within the historic fabric of the building, the project focused on enhancing light, improving circulation and refining the relationship between the principal living spaces. Through a series of carefully considered architectural interventions, the home now unfolds as a seamless sequence of interconnected rooms, each responding beautifully to both the river setting and the rhythms of modern family life.

What the Clients have to say:

“Renovating a listed property is rarely straightforward, so we valued ABL3’s support in navigating the process of securing listed building consent for our alterations, including an extension to the rear of the property and the addition of first-floor bedroom and bathroom. A key aim was to retain the house’s historic character while adapting it for modern living, and the revised layout has greatly improved how the house works for me. The team took a personal approach throughout and worked closely with us during the project.”

In collaboration with Doris Lee Studios, the interiors were curated to bring softness, balance and personality to each space. Carefully layered furnishings, antique pieces and richly textured materials create an atmosphere that feels collected over time — elegant yet entirely comfortable.

The completed restoration is a celebration of craftsmanship, heritage and contemporary riverside living — a home where historic character and modern quality of life exist in perfect harmony.

Grade 2 listed waterside homes

Set along one of London’s most prestigious riverside locations, this remarkable listed residence has been carefully restored and reimagined to create a calm, elegant family home that balances heritage with contemporary living.

Large sash windows frame changing views while drawing natural light deep into the interiors, creating moments of warmth and tranquillity throughout the day. Existing proportions and original detailing were retained and celebrated, complemented by a palette of tactile materials, bespoke joinery and understated contemporary additions that elevate everyday living without competing with the character of the building.

Subtle but valuable refinements to the external façade improved functionality and strengthened the home’s connection to its surroundings, ensuring the property feels both timeless and effortlessly liveable.

Quiet corners for reading, entertaining spaces bathed in afternoon light and beautifully framed views across the garden all contribute to a home designed not simply to be admired, but truly lived in.
